The Birth of Anti-Seize Innovation
Late 1940s
The story of Micro-Metal Compounds Canada Ltd. begins with Ian McLean, a Canadian ship’s engineer who faced challenges with corrosion caused by sea salts and high temperatures. Determined to find a solution, McLean developed one of the earliest anti-seize compounds, which he named Never-Seez. While the exact details of McLean’s involvement remain unverified, his story symbolizes the spirit of ingenuity that has driven our company from the start. McLean reportedly sold his formula to an American company, but dissatisfaction with their cost-cutting measures led him to return to Canada and establish Micro Metals Film.

A New Era of Excellence
1950s
With the backing of Art Smith and later Gordon Smith, Micro Metals Film gained access to top-tier engineering expertise. This collaboration led to significant advancements in copper-based and nickel-based anti-seize formulations, setting new standards for quality and performance. In 1959, Gordon Smith rebranded the company as Micro Metals Compounds Ltd. (MMC), marking the start of a new chapter focused on innovation and growth.

Strategic Growth and Expansion
1975
The company relocated to Newmarket, Ontario, to be closer to key raw material suppliers and a growing refinery customer base. This move positioned MMC for strategic growth and operational efficiency. The involvement of Gordon Smith’s sons, Donald and George, further strengthened the company’s leadership. By the 1980s, Donald’s son, Rusty, had taken the helm, expanding the customer base and introducing new products.

Acquisition and Modernization
1990
Micro Metals Compounds Ltd. was acquired by Lee Industrial, and operations moved to a state-of-the-art facility in London, Ontario. This marked a new phase of growth and modernization for the company. Despite the change in ownership, the Smith family retained a vested interest, ensuring continuity in the company’s commitment to excellence. A five-year collaboration with the Smith family led to advanced mixing techniques and superior product formulations.

Innovative Products and Global Recognition
2000s
Under Lee Industrial’s stewardship, MMC developed a groundbreaking nuclear-grade anti-seize compound, which exceeded industry standards and earned the endorsement of Ontario Hydro Corporation. This achievement propelled MMC into global markets, with products now supported in the United Kingdom, Singapore, and South Korea.

A New Chapter: Micro-Metal Compounds Canada Ltd.
2023
In July 2023, the company underwent a significant transformation. Led by Judson Lee, it was rebranded as Micro-Metal Compounds Canada Ltd. and relocated to a larger facility to support further development and innovation. This move reflects our commitment to growth and our vision for the future, ensuring we remain at the forefront of the anti-seize industry.
